'Chedugudu' launches Jayant son of Bhanuchander as hero. The basic storyline
is weak and has many loopholes. Screenplay and direction by PR Nagaraju is
not impressive. Dialogues by Veligonda Srinivas are good in parts.
Story:
Jayant (Jayant) is the son of a mason, while Swetha (Swetha) is the daughter
of a rich man (Sayaji Shinde). Both of them are in love and decide to elope.
Swetha's stepmother encourages her to elope with Jayant. Learning this,
Swetha's father sends his goons to catch Jayant and bring back his daughter
but they could not. While they elope, they reach a village called
Venkatarajapuram, which is a secluded village.
Surprisingly, none of the house will have doors. Even if there are doors,
they don't have any bolts to lock. The villagers don't depend on others and
don't allow new faces in their village. There is a police station in the
village, but the sub-inspector Madhav (Brahmanandam) and Radha (Kovai
Sarala) has no work there and stay in the village not to do duty but to
serve the people there in whatever way they can. Radha and Madhav give
shelter to Jayant and Swetha. The village head and panchayat president
(Jayaprakash Reddy) try to drive them out but accepts the plea of Radha and
Madhav as they were bound to give protection to the lovers.
Learning Swetha is in Venkatrajapuram, Swetha's father sends his goons to
the village and in a bid to save Swetha, the president's mother
(Vadivukkarasi) gets injured. Then they learn that Swetha is none other than
the granddaughter of president's mother and the niece of the president. Here
the flashback reveals that the president gets Swetha's mother married to her
lover (Sayaji Shinde) but the latter ditches them by robbing the temple
jewellery. In the process he also kills Swetha's mother. That was the reason
why the villagers are not allowing new faces into their village. They also
refuse to have a police station to save the village prestige as the police
may try to investigate the theft of temple jewellery and the subsequent
murder. In order to unite Jayant and Swetha all the villagers perform the
marriage of Swetha with Jayant and the movie comes to an end with a happy
note.
Performance:
Both debutants Jayant and Swetha gave good performance. Swetha needs to
slimdown a little. The director could not make use of several senior
artistes like Nagababu, Jayaprakash Reddy, Sayaji Shinde, Vadivukkarasi, Ali
and MS Narayana, though they individually did justice to their respective
roles. Other supporting artists Ali, Brahmaji, Satyam Rajesh and others were
apt.
Music:
Music by Chakri is average. None of the tunes are impressive and foot
tapping.
Verdict:
'Chedugudu' being the launch pad of Jayant he did a pretty impressive job in
his first movie, but Story being very weak it could not do any justice to
the Hero. Bhanuchander should have been more careful in choosing the scrip
and director for launching his son Jayant. Chedugudu can be rated as a below
average movie. | |
