'Drona' has nothing new to offer as far as the story is concerned, nothing
but old wine in new bottle. Director Karuna Kumar has given more weightage to
mass elements to attract B and C class crowds.
Story:
The movie begins with a young Drona (master Sai Krishna) threatening to shoot
at his friends and his father a police officer whacking him thoroughly and
then the former very upset leaves the house for good. Years pass by and he
grows up to be a young man (Nitin) and turns out to be a robber. Yet again,
fate comes into play and Drona ends up landing at the house of his parents
(Mukhesh Rushi and Sita) but then they are not aware that he is their son.
And even Drona does not take an initiative to inform them about his true
identity. Priyamani who is neighbour of Drona's parents discovers that Drona
is infact Sita's missing son and bares the secret to the family. The only man
upset with Drona and Priyamani romance is Sunil who plays the latter's uncle
pestering her to wed him. Drona later narrates his side of the story, that
he had not run away but he'd been kidnapped by a dreaded Don Kelly Dorjee who
had kept other kids as well in captivity in an island, training them for
future robberies. Dorjee wants Drona to siphon of the Nizam's jewels. Why
does he return and what happens next forms the crux of the story.
Performance:
Nitin gave good performance, his body language and expressions were apt.
Priyamani looked glamorous and her performance was average. Sunil's comedy
was good, Venu Madhav's comedy was just okay. Sita and Mukhesh Rushi were apt
in thier roles. All other supporting cast were average.
Music:
Music by Anoop Rubens is average. only a couple of songs have good
beats.
Verdict:
To sum up 'Drona' has nothing new to offer, except for Priyamani's glamour
show. Mostly mass oriented movie.
If there is nothing else to do then watching Drona can be your last option.
