'Kuberulu' is a comedy flick with no logic whatsoever. Director Srinivas
Reddy was able to script a good screenplay for the film. Though it was too
tardy at times.
Story:
Mafia gang from Mumbai hatches a plan and robs the Nizam Jewellery worth Rs
500 crore. However, one of the gang members, keeps the jewellery box in a
dilapidated car shed and takes the snaps with a cell phone and leaves it in
Vivekananda Colony. Before he gets encountered, he reveals the secret to his
brother and the mafia don. So the don starts searching for the mobile phone.
In the process, he kidnaps the brother of Dr Kalpana (Farjana) and tells her
to locate the cell phone in the colony. However, Kalpana could not secure the
mobile. Yarlgadda Siva Ram aka Junior YSR (Sivaji) had some property in his
village Devarapalli and he stays with his mother and his childhood friend
Chittibabu. Siva had a dream to become the panchayat president and serve the
people of his village. In order to contest elections and for campaign he
sells off his entire property but loses the elections. On the other hand, he
gets duped by a trickster, who promises to build houses at cheaper rates for
the villagers and Siva stands surety for them. On learning that they were
duped, the villagers question Siva and the panchayat president (Chalapati
Rao) gives a judgment that Siva should pay back the money to the people and
as a surety, his mother was forced to stay in the village. In order to earn
money Siva and Chittibabu reach Hyderabad. There they meet Rambabu aka Rambo
(Krishna Bhagawan) who, they believe, was in Dubai. He tells them that he
could not go to Dubai as the agent cheated him. The trio also start search
for the jewellery too. How the trio discover the hidden treasure forms the
rest of the movie.
Performance:
Both Sivaji and Ali gave good performance, and their imitation as YSR and
Chandra Babu Naidu respectively was hilarious.Farzana was alright as the
female lead. Krishna Bhagawan creates some comedy with his typical
one-liners. Kausha did a vamp role and she had couple of songs. MS Narayana
and Telangana Sakuntala did bring out some laughs. Siva Prasad as Don was
apt.
Music:
Music by Jeevan Thomas is average. Songs in the film are okay. Remix of old
song 'Gudiyenka' had the popular vamp of yesteryears Jyothi Lakshmi (who did
the original song) shook her legs for an item number along with a new face
Taslima Sheik.
Verdict:
Overall the film is okay to watch once for its comedy. The production values
are adequate. In a nutshell 'Kuberulu' is rated as a Below average movie, can
